Men's wear inspired by knights and everyday heroes

Recently in early January 2014, German label Sieger launched the new men's wear Fall/Winter 2014/15 collection under the title 'Excalibur' at Pitti Uomo in Florence (posting of photos from the booth below).

Designer Michael Sieger was inspired by the myths around the famous sword Excalibur of King Arthur and the ideals of knights such as honor and truth which count until today to the values of gentlemen. The legend says that the sword was made on the island Avalon and applies invulnerability to the one who wears it. King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table inspired various stories through the times. In the 12th century, the Holy Grail became the center of the knight stories. The Holy Grail is known as a vessel - it can be materialized as a cup or it can be the invisible god's shell which exists in the honorable and true soul of a knight. The second explanation of the Holy Grail is much more complicated, although it carries more power as god's shell transforms negative energy into positive and benefits this way all human beings. But seeing is believing and so the Holy Grail as materialized cup is more common in legends (or movies) and works often only for the person who found it.

Not only the idea of gentleman-heroes influenced Michael Sieger. Some designs of the new Sieger Fall/Winter 2014/15 collection visualize the times of the legendary knights around King Arthur and his sword Excalibur. Sieger used heraldic motifs such as a collection specific Sieger-coat of arms on blazers and patterns which were derived from the architecture of Gothic castles. Alongside to the Excalibur pieces, the label presented at Pitti Uomo its never-out-of-stock range in Sieger's significant color-mixes such as on view on the photo on this page (above).
