EGOmania Just When I Think I've Understood... / Appena ho capito d'aver capito
29 January – 2 May 2006
Palazzo Santa Margherita& Palazzina dei Giardini, Corso Canalgrande in Modena www.comune.modena.it/galleria
fig.: Dongwook Lee, Untitled (Seeing), 2005. argilla polimerica 7 x 4 x 12 cm. Courtesy the artist and Arario Gallery.
Dongwook Lee is the only artist on show who presents the human figure, here alongside the leftovers of dried fruit. His work consists of micro-sculptures of human subjects which seem to say, “You are dust, and to dust you shall return”. While this expresses a sense of disorientation, it also expresses a notion of the self which may be constructive and inspiring. As far as Dongwook Lee and Naneun (the other Korean artist on show, here with some 80 drawings) are concerned, there is a sense that wherever a Western sense of the self goes, it entails different and stronger notion of the self than that given by the traditional culture.
The works describe the importance of our relationship with nature and the madness that self-obsession may drive us to. more culture >>>
