The title of this painiting is taken from a poem by Austrian poetess and philosopher Ingeborg Bachmann. Bachmann such as Paul Celan and Kiefer himself, has been skeptical about the possibility of literature - and art in general - existing in the world after the Holocaust. Kiefer has used Bachmann’s work to explore women’s identity and experience in two different historical periods. more culture >>>
