FRIDA KAHLO, retrospective

1 September – 5 December 2010
Bank Austria Kunstforum, Vienna

Mexican woman inspires Austrians

On occasion of the retrospective 'Frida Kahlo', the Bank Austria Kunstforum (Vienna) has invited on 20 October 2010 to the presentation 'Frida Fashion' - a fashion collection with pieces designed by the director of the art collection Ingried Brugger herself and by Thang de Hoo, who is one of Vienna's most important couturiers. For this art event, other Viennese creative heads like the hairdressers 'Bundy Bundy' and the jeweller Anton Heldwein have taken inspirations from the work and life of Frida Kahlo. The well known fashion photographer Ingrid Prader has contributed the photographic representation of the collaboration.

The Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) is surrounded by the mythical light of the feminist movement, Mexican culture and the beginning of modern art business, which centers around the person of the artist like around a glittering pop star.

Bank Austria Kunstforum shows around 60 paintings, 20 objects and 80 works on paper. The exhibition is accompanied by photographic documents such as iconic photos taken of her by Nickolas Muray, which are "... enthralling examples of the self-scenario she projected and which contributed decisively to the construction of her myth." bankaustria-kunstforum.at/en/exhibitions/current
