'Intolerable' party outfits

The Künstlerhaus in Vienna is a place of interdisciplinarity between art, film and theatre and is known to host parties with guests like Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka... to name a few in the long history since 1868. On 11 November 2011, the Künstlerhaus invites to a 'Gschnas'. Gschnas is an Austrian word-creation for a costume party with creative outfits which are made of lower quality materials than a ball gown or sewn together from found materials and mixed with old clothes - 'self-made creation' is the keyword; and for the Künstlerhaus Gschnas an artful touch is recommended.

The history of the Gschnas at the Künstlerhaus begins on 24 February 1868 when the artists of the exhibition space invited to the first costume party. Until the 1960ies, artists like Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, stage designer and painter Hans Makart, architect Otto Wagner, and actresses like Paula Wessely... visited the parties in self-made costumes.

'Das Revival' is the first Gschnas after 40 years at the Künstlerhaus in Vienna. The motto of the genre-culture-generation mix party is provocatively 'Untragbar' - what means intolerable and unwearable at the same time.

On 11 November 2011, more than 50 artists like Ona B. and Victoria Coeln will create a virtual video-decoration for the party and Viennese art-figure Lucy McEvil (view her on the video with statements about bi-sexuality, Sigmund Freud and coffee) will moderate the Künstlerhaus-party where people can dance on three floors until the next morninig.
