Blue printing goods at a Christmas market in Vienna

Today, I walked through the Christmas market at Karlsplatz in Vienna (video). It's a children friendly market with lamas, horses and a carousel made from found objects - last mentioned looks more like a modern art piece than an entertainment roundabout.

The market's special focus are arts & crafts goods from various regions such as typical Austrian blue printed textiles from Burgenland. The manual blue printing technology with wooden models (image below) belongs since 2010 to Unesco's intangible cultural heritage. The items at the booth (images right) - from aprons, hats over cushions, tablecloths to serviettes, are manufactured at Koryphäen from textiles which are delivered by Blaudruckerei Koó.

The friendly woman at the booth told me that Koryphäen will soon launch a new product in collaboration with Fashion School Oberwart, the 'Burgenland Skirt'. Can't wait to see this skirt!
