The title, From Dust to Dusk is a play on words of two points of view, presented by the exhibition’s curator, the Swedish art historian Pontus Kyander, and the participating artists as they examine how contemporary art interprets the tiniest and least material of all earthly phenomena: Dust and light. Dust represents the insignificance of earthly matter while the concept of light transcends culture and religion as a symbol of vision and purity. Viewed cosmically the combination of the two concepts is a prerequisite for the universe and the emergence of life. The exhibition’s overall theme is played upon in work, previous and new, by 21 artists, some well-established and others younger and promising, who are representative of the total range of artistic means of expression - from painting and photography over video and performances to art as a more socially open activity. The work spans from entirely material to totally free interpretations of the main theme. more culture>>>
