The movie Stromboli by Roberto Rossellini with his later wife Ingrid Bergman in the leading role is significant for the Italian Neorealism: in the 1940s and early 50s the Italian cinema presents a new aesthetic as a counterpart to the glamorous Hollywood.

Hollywood star Ingrid Bergman found in the films of her husband and father of three of her children a new way of expression. They worked together until 1954. Roberto Rossellini (1906-1977) ranks as one of the central figures in 20th Century culture. next>>>
