Across the Universe 2007

Nominated for best Costume Design! Albert Wolsky (Costume Design)
Check out the Oscars live on 24th February 2008 www.oscars.com

Writer-director Julie Taymor investigates the ‘60s in this movie musical with some very special guests in supporting roles such as U2’s Bono, Salma Hayek, Eddie Izzard, singer Joe Cocker. "I really want young people to see the passion in this movie – to see with what fervor these characters invested themselves into social movements as well as self-exploration,” she says. “I hope it really speaks ‘across the universe’ and across cultures... that anybody could identify with the situations and the events that are happening in this movie.
The love story plays in the 60s during the turbulent years of anti-war protest, mind exploration and rock 'n roll, the film moves from the dockyards of Liverpool to the creative psychedelia of Greenwich Village, from the riot-torn streets of Detroit to the killing fields of Vietnam... costume designer Albert Wolsky>

fig.: Tumultuous forces outside their control ultimately tear the young lovers apart, forcing Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood) and Jude (Jim Sturgess) – against all odds – to find their own way back to each other. Right: T.V. Carpio, who plays Prudence, is a discovery: she has a beautiful singing voice, is a dancer and former ice skater. © 2007 Sony Pictures Releasing GmbH
