Canonero’s designs for the flashback sequences set on Earth included masks and goggles, signaling the need for protection against a worsening environment, and a new style of raincoat.
“For the more intimate scenes, “ she reveals, “I got rid of lapels and collars and buttons because I wanted the costumes to be lean, almost like a drawing. Also the main cast doesn’t have many accessories or props. But they each have a distinct look. They’re not wearing uniforms like you see in a lot of science fiction movies. We went for a different look, where they’re individuals and wear their clothes the way they want to wear them, with a personality.”
