Fashion photographer Nadja Bernhardt presents in this exhibition a retrospective of her six years in Australia. Nadja Bernhardt documents the world of fashion questioning "Fashion or not fashion …" Her works are not typical fashion photographies, no glossy stereotypes seen in many magazines. They are idiosyncratic representations of people and how they relate to places and situations.
Nadja Bernhardt says: "Pour moi, la mode est un prétexte … I never really worry about fashion, unless I am shooting an advertisement or a catalogue, and even then … My main concern is what my photos can tell about the people or places. Often the images I pick up are those where the clothes are not essential, where the attention is somewhere else. It can be a hand, or a person walking by, that gives a point of contrast to the overall composition and puts the model into perspective - or it can be a shadow, or the texture of the ground. I always try to have the models loosen up so they can be honest in their body attitude - there is nothing more irritating for me than the "cliché" attitude - the "model look". It's not life!" more foto >>>
