On occassion of the 18th World Press Freedom Day (24 April 2008) French photographer Bettina Rheims presented some of her images showing Chinese women and Western icons
in an album with texts by Jacques Attali.
The Benefit of the Album The album's sale price of 9,90 euros will benefit the organisation "Reporters Without Borders" who is raising awareness on the difficulties encountered by the media in our world. From the beginning of the year until 24 April 2008 129 journalists, 7 media assistants and 63 cyberdissidents jailed, 8 journalists killed (worldwide).

Bettina Rheims (born 1952 in Paris) is one of the most distinguished contemporary photographers. Before devoting herself to photography in 1978, the artist worked as a model and gallerist. Bettina Rheims was also able to establish herself as a fashion photographer, designed record covers, shot videos and commercials. She has published several volumes of photographs. Her pictures have been shown in numerous museums worldwide.
Reporters Without Borders The organisation monitors especially the situation in Europe. Reporters Without Borders has investigated on violences against journalists in the EU. Media professionals in Europe are threatened by criminal organisations, mafias, terrorists groups and religious extremists. Reporters without borders has studied the situation in Denmark, Spanish Basque country, Northern Ireland, Sicily and French suburbs. You can find results of this monitoring on www.rsf.org.
