Krystle Ahmadyar
part of the exhibition "Antithesis: 2008 Senior Thesis"
2–20 April 2008
The Mills College Art Museum www.mills.edu/museum
Participating artists:
The artists, students of the Mills College art faculty, present their final thesis projects with a strong focus on gender, the subject, and communication: Krystle Ahmadyar, Aurora Arding, Molly Bower, Kristin Doner, Aviana Lynn, Victoria Jarvis, Melanie Lombard, Rosanna Scimeca, Kimi Taira.
Krystle Ahmadyar works in intermedia performance to expose the complexities and performative aspect of identity. Ahmadyar’s current persona, Cage Norman, is a dandy in an art historical dialog with the ideas of Marcel Duchamp, Robert Rauschenberg and John Cage. She uses their work as inspiration, but also points out their failure to address political issues. Through performance, sculpture and painting, Cage Norman invites the viewer to question his or her assumptions of the Western gentleman and ideas of gender and race. Krystle Ahmadyar is a candidate for a BA in Philosophy from Mills College 2008.
