David Byrne
On tour through Europe and the United States

Video: 'What A Day That Was' from the album 'The Catherine Wheel' (1981) by David Byrne; live at Union Chapel in London during the Lazy Eyeball tour in 2002. The song begins with the words "Well, I'm dressed up so nice..."

'The Catherine Wheel' story

In 1983 the ballet, directed by Twyla Tharp, with the music of 'The Catherine Wheel' premiered on Broadway. The story is about Saint Catherine of Alexandria (lived end of 3rd until the early 4th century) who was penalized by the torture of the 'wheel'. After she was binded on the wheel it breaks and has killed many of her punishers. It stands for the justice of god, faith and fortune. In the ballet Catherine's wheel is replaced by an atom bomb. You can watch the ballet on a video by the Twyla Tharp Dance Foundation.
