Love symbol 'frog king'

...seen at the gold and platinum collection by Viennese jeweller Skrein in early January 2014. The symbol 'frog king' is mainly known from Brother's Grimm story 'Der Froschkönig' and can be interpreted in many ways. The animal stands for love that has to be found; one way to interpret the symbol is to kiss many frogs until the right one is found; another way is to change the view on the frog for discovering the prince's heart. In Grimm's original story, the princess threw the animal against the wall because the frog asked for sleeping in her bed. "This speech put the King's daughter into a terrible passion, and catching the Frog up, she threw him with all her strength against the wall, saying 'Now will you be quiet, you ugly Frog!'" cited from the illustrated 'Grimm's Fairy Stories' on Gutenberg Project.

This is the time when it becomes really complicated in Grimm's story: the ban was broken for the animal and it appears as friendly prince. At the same moment, the princess - who deliberated him with her decision, had the free choice to discover her love for him. And she did! They stayed together until the end of time.

fig.: The frog king on this page is made from platinum and fair gold. The item is from the 'Frog King' collection of earrings, necklaces, pendants, ring and pin by Vienna-based jeweller Skrein. (Fair gold is gold that does not pollute the world, explains Skrein.)
