Gunther Schatz was born and raised in Salzburg, Austria. He received his
Masters of Fine Arts (Set- and Stage Design) from the University of
Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria. He further received his Masters of
Communications from the University of Vienna, Austria. Gunther came to
California with a >Tische< scholarship from the Austrian Ministry of Education and the Arts (Bundesministerium fuer Unterricht und Kunst). As a designer for CORTEX Architecture, Los Angeles, he specialized in computer renderings and 3D animation.

He started his Visual Effects career 1998 at >Banned from the Ranch Entertainment<. Employed as a Digital 3D Artist Gunther created effects for 7 feature films and various commercials and later became 3D Supervisor. He left >Banned from the Ranch< to set up INFLUX DIGITAL, LLC, his own visual effects company. Working as Visual Effects Designer on various feature films, trailers and commercials he specialized in dynamic particle effects such as water and smoke simulations. Two years ago he teamed up with ASYLUM FX, Santa Monica. Working closely with renown directors such as Ridley Scott and Michael Bay, Gunther developed effects for >Pearl Harbor< (nominated for the 2001 Visual Effects Academy Award/ best action sequence MTV Movie Awards 2001 ) and >Black Hawk Down<. He designed the title sequence for the upcoming feature film >Phonebooth< and received a Mobius Award (2001) for his effects work in various commercials. Currently he is developing the visual effects for Peter Weir's film >The Far Side of the World<.
